Surprise, surprise! The 2010 NFL betting season is out of the blocks in a hurry, and the theme so far on the young season has been upsets, upsets, and more upsets.
Eight of the 16 home teams last week were underdogs on the NFL spreads, and several of them came to play in a big way.
On Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs proved that they were here to stay in 2010, as
Green Bay Packers Jersey they toppled the San Diego Chargers, the four time defending AFC West champs 21-14.
Sunday Night Football featured one of those upsets as well, as the Washington Redskins got the Donovan McNabb/Mike Shanahan era off on a good foot, beating the Dallas Cowboys 13-7 on the final play of the game.
The Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Houston Texans also posted wins as home underdogs. All told, home pups ended up going 5-3 SU and 5-3 ATS on the weekend.
All but one of those outright victories have the same thing in common as well. In games where the home underdog won outright, the 'under' came in four of the five times. The only exception was Houston, which featured 231 rushing yards by RB Arian Foster in a 34-24 triumph over the Indianapolis Colts.
Many of these teams that ended up losing on the road were playoff teams from last year. In fact, seven out of the 12 from a year ago that made the playoffs are already off to -1 starts on the season.
Only one team ultimately won outright but failed to cover the NFL odds this week, and that was the
personalized nfl jerseys most controversial victory of the bunch. The Detroit Lions were down 19-14 with less than a minute to play against the Chicago Bears. Backup QB Shaun Hill, who was replacing the injured QB Matt Stafford, hooked up with WR Calvin Johnson for what very well could've been the game winning score. Instead, Johnson was ruled to not complete a football move before the ball hit the ground. The ruling was in incomplete pass, the Bears hung on to that five point win. At least the boys from the Motor City can return home with a cover for their efforts.

In Buffalo, Chan Gailey's decision to take the intentional safety with 1:00 remaining in the game was the difference and Miami covered the -3.5 points at Bodog.
Unders, unders everywhere! The season got off to a relatively ominous start for those of us that love scoring, as the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings only combined for 23 points in a 14-9 win for the defending champs. Little did we know that that would be the first of a whole boatload of low scorers on the weekend.
In the 1:00 ET Sunday games, five of the nine stayed 'under' the number posted by the oddsmakers. From that point forward is where the real damage kicked in. The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers combined for 37 points on the day, which pushed the 'total'. Aside from that, each of the remaining five games on the slate resulted in 'unders'. All told, 'under' bettors rejoiced to the tune of an 11-4-1 record in Week 1.
Chew on this: The average total score reached in Week 1 of the season was just 36.6 points. The median was only 34. Compare that to the average 'totals' that the oddsmakers put on the board... The average was 41.7 and the median was 40. That
Brian Cushing Jersey touchdown difference is absolutely tremendous and is something that is clearly going to have to be looked at again this week by the oddsmakers, especially with a slew of starting quarterbacks that are either hurting or are already out of action.
Almost all of the divisions in the NFL went a total of 2-2 SU and ATS this weekend. The exceptions were the AFC South, which went 3-1 SU and ATS, and the AFC West, which went 1-3 SU and ATS.
All four teams in the AFC South posted 'over' games in Week 1, while both the NFC North (-4) and the NFC West (-2-2) are still in search of their first 'over' games of the year.
